Buzz Airfare; Airfare booking tips

  1. Be flexible

Being flexible is about planning:

  1. Most people start with where and when they want to go
  2. Then they shop
  3. Get frustrated and settle for something less

Instead of starting with where YOU want to go and WHEN you want to go there. Start with what are the deals out there and when are they. Personally, to me a beach is a beach is a beach, I would be just as happy on a beach in the south of Spain as I would be in the in Hawaii.

Being flexible does not mean last minute. Many of the best airfare come available as much as 9 months in advance.

  1. Don’t just look for one location

Either going to or going from.

I flight to Hawaii may come on sale to airports along the west coast that people not on the coast would never see

If you want to go to Europe, look at all airports in Europe, especially ones in countries near where you want to go.

  1. Avoid peak months

In North America and Europe, the cheapest time of year to fly is usually:

  • January through mid-May
  • September through early December

The most expensive time to fly is usually:

  • Peak summer: mid-June through mid-August
  • Christmas
  • New Year’s Eve
  1. The best time to book flights

For domestic flights is 1-3 months in advance and for international flights 2-8 months in advance.

For Summer add a month or two onto these recommendations, and if you’re traveling during low season it’s more likely cheap fares will pop up closer to departure date.

Prices tend to jump closer to departure, so you don’t want to cut it too close.

  1. Travel days

In general Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday are the cheapest days to travel. Friday and Sunday are usually the most expensive days.

There was a time when certain days of the week were better for booking, but that is not the case today.

  1. Travel tools to search for flights

GoogleFlights and Momondo are two that are the easiest to use, and if you are traveling domestic check out Skiplagged Remember that Southwest doesn’t show up on search engines, so check directly on their website. >> Read our tips on how to use Google, Momondo & Skiplagged

  1. Act fast

Always be ready to snatch up a deal. How long will it last? It’s hard to say for sure! Unless it’s an advertised sale. The better the fare, the shorter it will last.

  1. Tell everyone

But only after you have booked your own tickets.
